Fireplaces

Putting in a brand new fireplace or opening up an old disused fireplace in your Warwickshire home is a good way to add a homely feel and some charm to any room. You can enjoy the warmth and ambience of an open fire or stove on those cold winter evenings

Before you go prising away at a bricked-up chimney there are some things you'll need to do to make sure you can safely install your new fireplace. All work carried out must adhere to Part J of the UK's Building Regulations, which addresses the construction and installation of flue linings, hearths, chimney breasts and fireplaces of any combustible appliance. Planning permission may also have to be sought before work begins if your property is listed or in a conservation area.

Be sure to know whats being installed

This is an image of a liner removed from an elderly gentlemens house just 8 years old. A liner which should have lasted 20 years, however the installers decided to make some extra cash by providing a cheaper liner suitable for only wood fires knowing full well the customer had a multifuel burner and knowing the customer was going to be burning smokeless coal.

Thankfully a chimney sweep realised something was wrong and inspected the install and condemened the fire.
